From being strangers to friends

to crushes to strangers

to lovers and to friends again….

Our paths drift into different tree roots,

and my love will stay intertwined with you forever,

but for now,

we must let go.

To love you,

I lost myself,

and I hope one day, we can come back together.

Our roots connecting to each other again, as

the water sinks to the depths of the earth.

Our love, the water that nourishes us,

will stay in our stems forever.

Let us reach new soil to prevent us

from stealing all the water from each other.

May life take its course and let the tethers

within our roots return to each other

when everything is aligned more nicely.

If life even lets it happen at all. For now, we have to let go

of one another and let our roots drift apart, but remember

the rain that nourishes us will always be

the love we share for one another.

And you know how much I hate saying goodbyes.

Goodbye,

my love.

May your hands find their way back into mine

someday.
